Compatible with Windows® VistaT.

Lanpaks must be 9.0A or higher.

Smart Finder can now search on multiple criteria.

Contents of disabled fields are shown in blue rather than dimmed gray. This may be easier to read on some monitors at higher resolutions.

Adagio download files, installs, workstation installs, all workstation install (\softrak\allwkst\allwkst.exe), program files and the Adagio Check System utility (chksys.exe) are now signed with a digital certificate using VeriSign to allow you to verify the Publisher is Softrak Systems Inc.

Vista does not support the old style Windows Help (.HLP files). All .HLP files were converted to compiled HTML help (.CHM files), which are supported by Vista.

For security reasons Windows does not permit .CHM help files to be run from a network drive. This is true in XP as well as Vista. The .CHM files must be run from a local drive. Adagio 8.1A installs all .CHM help files to your local hard drive and loads them from there. The workstation install also copies .CHM files to the local drive.

When switching windows/tasks in Vista with Alt-Tab or the new Flip 3D (Windows-Tab) an image of the current Adagio screen is shown rather than just the icon of the Adagio program.

You can now backup Adagio data in zip form to WebSafe, a web-based storage facility. WebSafe is a service which allows you to store your important information in a secure location that you can access from anywhere in the world. See www.websafe.com for details.

The formatting of dates and text sent to Excel from Smart Finder results has been improved.

Adagio Checks supports Adagio Ledger 9.0A. Fields required for future drill-down from Ledger to Checks are included in the GL transaction batch and will be retrieved by Ledger 8.1A and higher.

A 'User defined' field has been added to the G/L Description 'Send to' options in the Company Profile. This allows you to format the G/L Description field sent to the GL using a combination of fields from the check and free form text. The following specification codes are supported.

The specification designer toolbar now fits on one rather than 2 lines at most common screen resolutions.

The designer allows you to open specifications by using the spec Title under File | Specification Options. This is the same list of titles displayed in Checks when selecting a document to print, fax or email. Previously you could open the specification by its file name only.

Improvements have been made to the sample data.

Pressing F5 in an amount or date field to invoke the calculator or calendar caused an error.

Sort by date did not work correctly in View History.

The amount in words for spec codes 'Check amount words (no asterisks) and 'Check amount words (leading asterisks) required for Canadian Payments Association Standard 006 (no trailing asterisks) printed "/10" instead of "/100" at the end if the amount was large enough to require 2 lines.

New check specification field 'MICR Check Number/Account Encoding' has been added to more easily get the correct spacing between the 2 fields rather than using the separate fields for Check Number and Account Encoding. The cheque specification has been updated in the sample data for Canadian Payments Association Standard 006 (QC$CPA01). The default CPA spec has been updated for the Designer.

Adagio Checks includes an additional 8 MICR fonts (for a total of 9) that may be used to adjust for slight variations detected in the MICR font when cheques are submitted for Canadian Payments Association Standard 006 compliance (an optional test available in Canada). Differences in printer drivers, printer rasterization engines and toner adhesion may result in failure of the test in the MICR font (while the checks have been clearing successfully at the bank).
The additional fonts let you create narrower or wider and/or lighter or bolder characters in MICR fields on the check according to the following table (the font name is show on the second line of each cell). Note that these fonts are only needed in Canada. The MICR font provided with Adagio Checks since its initial release in 1999 has always been accepted by banks in the US and conforms to the 'Check 21 Act' enacted in October 2003.

The default MICR font (AdagioMICR) has been adjusted slightly.

The default number of forms when printing 1099s has been changed to 2 to match the current standard 1099 form.
The last specification selected to print 1099s is remembered for next time.

You can no longer delete a bank while there is an open batch for that bank.

If you changed the tax amount on a detail in batch entry it recalculated the total amount if a Distribution with Tax Type set to 'Tax included purchase' or 'Tax distribution' was used.

An error occurred in the check designer when you opened the properties on the check number field in some cases.

The 'Format telephone numbers' option was not saved in 8.0A.

Adagio Checks check specifications conform to the Canadian Payments Association's (CPA) Standard 006 required for all cheques written in Canada after June 30, 2007. Several new date formats have been added to the properties of the spec code 'Check date' to support this standard. Added check specification "Adagio Sample Check 01 CPA" (QC$CPA01.sam) that supports the CPA standard to the sample data.

The existing legal amount field 'Check amount words' spec code prints with trailing asterisks on cheques. Trailing asterisks are not compatible with the CPA standard. New spec codes 'Check amount words (no asterisks)' and 'Check amount words (leading asterisks)' have been added to print the legal amount.

Added a menu choice 'Open Template' to the File menu in the check designer. This function provides a list of the template specification files shipped with Adagio Checks. The templates can be opened, modified as needed and saved as a specification with your company database. The templates include a new CPA Standard 006 compliant check specification file: Adagio Sample Check CPA (QC$CPA01). This specification is designed to match the Wellspring check stock available from Softrak Systems. It can be modified or used as a starting point to design a specification to match your existing check stock.

A Find button has been added to Edit Vendor.

A Batch Status Inquiry function has been added.

A Vendor Inquiry function has been added. This lets you use Groups to prevent certain users from using Edit vendors to delete or change vendor records while still allowing them to view vendors.

Adagio Checks interfaces to BankRec 8.0A. Checks written in Adagio Checks can be retrieved into Adagio BankRec for reconciling your bank accounts. Earlier versions of BankRec are not supported.

You can now print dates with 4 digit years on checks whereas earlier versions only allowed 2 digit years.

The 1099 specification file has been updated to support the current 1099 form. The new specification is QC$2005 (or QC$1099, which is the same thing).

The GL transactions generated by a reversal now use the session date (from log in to Adagio Checks) rather than the system date from the computer.

File | Options are now saved by workstation rather than globally. One advantage of this is that it allows workstations to select different specific printers when local printers are used.

The check designer was updated. The menu bar, property dialogs, and Spec Codes list positioning have been improved.

The function 'Active Users' has been added to the Help menu. This function lists the users and the applications they have open for the company you have open.

Users of Adagio GridView 8.0A or higher can add views to the Inquiry menu in Adagio Checks. To use this feature, create a Workspace in GridView containing one or more Views, then copy the Workspace (.gvs) and Views (.gv) it uses to \softrak\qcwin\views. Placing the view files in a subdirectory with the same name as the security Group will restrict use of the view to users in that Group (for example: \softrak\qcwin\views\ADMIN).

The F2 key now supports Windows standard behavior by editing the line selected on a grid (same as clicking the Edit button).

The F6 key now opens the smart finder directly from any grid where you can do a find. You do not have to press F5 or the Find button first to invoke the smart finder.

The Windows calculator can added to and launched from the toolbar by selecting 'Calculator button' in File | Options.

The date of the last data integrity check is now displayed in the status bar.

The Data Integrity Checker memo now shows the date the integrity check was run, the starting and ending time, the path and extension of the data and the user name.

The Data Integrity Checker now writes full details of the integrity check into the log file (QCWINERR.xxx, where xxx is your company data extension).

The source files for all reports in Adagio Checks are installed in the StandardRP sub-directory rather in the program directory \Softrak\QCWin. You can modify the built-in reports using Crystal Reports for Adagio and place them in \Softrak\QCWin\ModRP. Adagio Checks will print the modified version of the report from ModRP directory. This allows future installations of Adagio Checks to update report files without over-writing custom versions of the report. Note: customizations to built-in reports should be redone on any updated report file to take advantage of revisions in the updated version.

The Check Register can now be printed automatically after posting. If you keep check registers and do not purge them after posting, this saves you from having to manually select the last sequence to print only the register for the batch or batches you just posted. To use this feature, set the 'Auto print posting journal after post' option in the Company Profile.

Added Formatted Address Line spec codes in the check designer. This allows you to eliminate blank address lines on checks. Some of the check specifications in the sample data have been updated to use the formatted codes. Formatted codes can also be used on 1099s.

Added specification QI$ALL.SAM 'All Specification codes' to the sample data. This specification prints all possible spec codes to aid in the design of invoice specifications.

When launching other modules from the Adagio menu in Adagio Checks, the session date is passed to the module. For example, if you are logged into Adagio Checks with yesterday's date and launch Adagio Ledger, it will also use yesterday's date as its session date. Most currently shipping versions of Adagio modules accept the session date when launched from the Adagio menu. In addition, any module that accepts the session date can be launched from a Windows icon using the /T parameter with a date specified in the format YYYYMMDD (for example: QCWIN.EXE /T20061231). This may be useful at year end time.

When you start Adagio Checks it now checks the "Opportunistic Locking" settings to ensure they are correctly set on the workstation. If the settings are incorrect, a warning and instructions are displayed. Proper "Opportunistic Locking" settings are required at each workstation (and on the server) to ensure the integrity of your accounting data in a multi-user environment.

When the program is started, it now checks that the Report Tables Drive is correct and up to date. This prevents problems printing reports caused by selecting the wrong Reports Tables Drive during installation, changing it in Crystal Reports for Adagio, or changing the drive mapping to the Reports Tables Drive after installing the product.

The install now checks to ensure the current user has rights to write to the Adagio program directories. It also checks that the current user can access the areas of the Windows registry required to install and run Adagio. The chksys utility also makes these checks for the current user.

Excel Direct feature added to Smart Finder. Click the Excel Direct button to launch Excel and export the Smart Finder results to a workbook. The Column Editor in the Smart Finder can be used to select the columns and header titles to export.

Adagio Checks now allows you to run multiple instances on the same workstation. This allows sites with multiple companies to open Adagio Checsk for more than one company at a time on the same computer. It also benefits single company sites that want to perform 2 or more functions at the same time, such as printing reports. Each additional instance uses a license, therefore an Adagio Lanpak must be installed to use this feature.

The background color of the main window can be set by company in Edit Company Profile. This provides a visual cue to easily distinguish multiple instances for different companies.

Users of Crystal Reports for Adagio can create custom reports and have them appear on the Reports menu in Adagio Checks. This allows users to print, preview and export custom reports without needing to run Crystal Reports. This feature is only available if a copy of Crystal Reports for Adagio is installed, and requires Crystal Reports for Adagio to be registered within 60 days of installation. This feature requires Crystal Reports for Adagio 6.8A (2002.09.23) or later.

The list of recently opened databases has been expanded from 10 to 25 entries. Duplicate entries where the characters of the path have a different case are now removed.

Multiple users can now print the same report at the same time.

The options and ranges chosen on report dialogs when you print a report are saved by company for the next time the report is printed. Set the 'Remember report settings' option in the Company Profile to use this feature.

The Smart Finder search criteria (e.g. "sounds like") is now saved for the next time you use Smart Finder, rather than always defaulting to "contains".

Screens now open at a more logical position on dual monitor systems.

When printing reports to file, you can now choose from four different formats on the print dialog: Excel, HTML, Text, or Word. The default format can be set in the Company Profile.

When printing reports to file, the filename defaults to the name of the report rather than the generic filename ADAGIO.TXT.

The size and position of the Adagio Checks and Designer main windows is now saved when the appropriate options are selected in the File | Options menu.

The functionality of the Adagio menu has been extended to allow Adagio Developer Partners to add their products to the Adagio menu in Adagio Checks. In this way, third party products can be launched from the Adagio menu.

When a Distribution Code with a blank Account/Department is added a batch entry, the Account/Department from the Vendor is now picked up.

When you moved checks from one batch to another they were assigned new check numbers.
To install Adagio Checks from the Adagio Product CD, you need the serial number and install code from the Product Label that came with your CD.
If you are installing an upgrade, you need the serial number and install code from the Upgrade Product Label that came with your upgrade CD. A previous version of Adagio Checks should already be installed on your computer before installing the upgrade. If a previous version is not already installed, you can still install the upgrade. After entering the upgrade serial number and install code, you will also have to enter the serial number and install code from your original version.
If you are installing a Service Pack you do not need to enter a serial number or install code. However, a previous version of Adagio Checks 8.0A must be installed before the Service Pack can be installed.
To install Adagio Checks (or an upgrade), insert the CD in the drive. If the install program does not start automatically, run ADAGIO.EXE from the root of the CD. Once the install program is running you can click the Help button for detailed instructions. If Adagio Checks is installed on a network, you must also do a workstation install for each workstation running Adagio Checks. Refer to the manual or "Installing on a network" in the Readme help for instructions.
To install the Adagio Checks Service Pack, run the Service Pack program and follow the instructions on the screen. After installing the Service Pack, and depending on the version you were running prior to installing it, a workstation install may be required at each station running Adagio Checks. To determine if a workstation install is required, start Adagio Checks at the station. The workstation install will be automatically started if required. Note: If you are updating multiple applications at the same time, it may be faster to run the all workstation install to update all applications at once on the station. Refer to "Installing on a Network" in the Readme for instructions.
There are no special instructions for upgrading to this version. A database conversion is not required. However, changes to your existing check specifications may be required (see below).
Note: Adagio Checks does not support multi-currency. Adagio Checks no longer supports these DOS products: Cashbook, Time Billing and Client Receivables, and Quik History.
Adagio Checks 8.0A includes a new version of the Check Designer. In most cases checks will print correctly from specifications designed in earlier versions. However, we recommend specifications created in previous versions be converted before they are used in version 8.0A. To convert a specification, simply open it and save it in the designer. Minor adjustments may be required after the specification is converted, and we recommend you print test checks after installing Adagio Checks 8.0A to ensure they are printing correctly.
In some cases if the Page Size in a check specification is set to 'Default', it may not print correctly in version 8.0A, depending on your printer settings in Windows. We recommend you change the setting to 'Letter 8 ˝ x 11 in' (or other specific size as appropriate).
Note: Specifications created with Adagio Checks 8.0A cannot be used with earlier versions of Adagio Checks.
